Is the United States close to “The Point of No Return”? The government can’t continue to overspend and has a two trillion-dollar deficit yearly. Surprisingly, very few people in the government discuss the deficit and continue to spend. Politicians have been kicking the can down the road, and there is no end in sight! Neither party wants to cut spending, and they’re fine with the debt clock ticking up! In January 2025, the government created Doge to help eliminate waste and fraud and reduce the deficit.

Liberal vs. Conservatives

Conservatives love them and Liberals hate them. The outrage from the Liberal party makes no sense, for they once believed in eliminating waste under the Clinton and Obama administrations. Obama even established the “Campaign to Cut Waste” program in 2011. They cut approximately $17 billion, but the actual amount could be more. I have no idea what happened to the program after 2012.

The Conservatives are not much better. They are cheering on Doge but have done nothing to help them trim the fat. They are happy with pork and are no different from their counterparts. They have been sitting back and letting the Liberals take center stage with protests trying to save wasteful programs. They are working on the big spending bill. It is supposed to decrease the deficit, but I don’t think it will. Are they just pretending to care about the United States’ future, or do they care

Why does either party not care about the debt?

It’s amusing how both sides claim that Congress should manage the money. No one wants to take on this responsibility and eliminate the US debt. It’s mind-boggling that we must increase spending every few months to keep the government running. I would love to see how politicians manage their households. Very few politicians admit that the United States has a spending problem and continues to spend, knowing it’s unsustainable. There is no reason why they can’t work together to cut the spending and reduce the deficit. Yes, it will be challenging, and it will impact everyone. They could have avoided large deficits years ago, but spending other people’s money is easy. It’s not a problem for politicians. Most will either be retired or 6 feet under by the time it’s too late!

Why should politicians worry? Most are rich and don’t have to worry about inflation or paying the bills like the average American family. They continue to establish rules and regulations enabling them to accumulate wealth without legal implications. How is it that some lifelong politicians who earn around $200,000 a year and have no significant wealth before becoming politicians, become multimillionaires?

They also don’t want term limits because they would no longer control government spending. They would lose the ability to make rules and regulations for everyone but themselves. They insist it is essential for them to be exempt from policies because they are government entities, and without them, the system would collapse. Honesty, term limits would help weed out corrupt officials, especially the most deplorable offenders!

Why should politicians care about the debt

If politicians cared about you, some do, they would care about their constituents and do right by them. It’s sad what has happened to the American people due to politicians’ actions. The United States would never be in this financial position if the politicians did their job! Most people have no inkling that things will get worse if we don’t cut spending.

In our state county last year, we were tens of millions of dollars over budget. The solution was to raise property taxes by twenty-something percent. Social media was abuzz with complaints from residents, but the county still voted to raise taxes anyway. Taxes will also increase in 2027, when the Federal American Rescue Plan (ARPA) is set to expire. Another double-digit tax increase is on the way! This is all thanks to a one-party council that makes all the decisions for the county’s funds. All five of them voted yes in favor of increasing taxes because it’s much easier to raise taxes they reduce spending.

I recommend that every American look at their representative and investigate what they have done for their community. Are your streets safer? Have they gotten wealthy since taking office? Do you have more money in your pocket? Will your kids be better off than you? How much will your taxes increase to pay the federal, state, and local debt?

Do your homework before you vote! Don’t complain if you keep voting for the same people, whether they are Republican or Democrat. Forget what side they represent, for they should represent the American people, not themselves or their party!
