Shouldn’t all politicians be against crime?  Following the “Defund the Police” movement in 2020, crime rates have increased. Cities like Minneapolis cut the police budget by $8 million, LA $150 million, and NYC by $1 billion in 2021. In 2025, these cities and others with high crime rates insist that crime is down. Are crime rates actually down? Alternatively, are people not reporting crimes? This might be because nothing happens to the criminal, and they are back out on the street in hours.  List of Dangerous Cities

Washington, DC

Trump is cleaning up Washington, DC, which has been a crime-ridden city for decades. The Democrats insist that crime is down in Washington, DC, which it may be, but is it really? The White House put out some statistics; you can make your own decision.

In 1992, DC eliminated the money bail system. Judges instead decided whether someone is a public threat or a flight risk.  Since 2012 and 2024, the homicide rate has doubled. As far as carjacking and robbery, how many of the criminals were given a slap on the wrist and were released?  Or was the defendant afraid to testify?

Let’s look at the consequences when someone steals from another person in Washington, DC:

If someone steals something valued at $1,000 or more, it is considered a first-degree felony. It carries a sentence of up to 10 years in jail and a $25,000 fine.  A second-degree felony is defined as stealing less than $1,000. This is considered a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.  Repeated thefts can face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $37,500.

A person convicted of carjacking will be imprisoned for a mandatory sentence of 7 to 21 years. They will also be fined not more than the amount outlined in § 22-3571.01

I couldn’t understand why the crime levels were so high in DC. Especially when the penalties for robbery and carjacking are so severe. So, I did some more research.  The main reason is that no one is prosecuting these people.

They are also experiencing a severe staffing shortage due to retirements and difficulties in hiring new officers.  In fact, this year the Police Union had the lowest number of sworn-in officers in 50 years.  Mayor Bower even offered a $20,000 sign-on bonus in 2022 and $25,000 in 2023, and they still can’t find people.

Why is that?  Could it be that becoming a police officer and being mis-treated by the public and politicians is not worth the risk? People are ambushing officers or videotaping them to make them look bad. They are throwing water bottles and other objects at them. Is it worth getting hurt or risking your life, especially when you don’t have your politicians supporting you.

In two weeks’ time, Trump stopped most of the crime. Even Mayor Bower admitted that crime is down, especially given her anti-Trump stance.

Chicago Crime

Chicago Mayor Johnson and Governor Pritzker are both threatening Trump if he comes to Chicago. There is no need for Trump to go to Chicago if they would fix the crime themselves.  Do they think Chicago is safe when every week you read about people being shot and killed? So far in August, 37 people were shot and killed, and 201 were shot and wounded.  That is a total of 238 people shot in one month. Is this not a problem?

What is interesting is that no one talks about the money they spend on their own security detail. His security details are paid for by the Illinois State Police (ISP), and they don’t publicly post how much is spent due to security reasons.

Yes, Illinois, you are paying to protect him and have no idea how much it is costing you. I am not saying he should not be protected. However, the people have the right to know how much it costs.

Mayor Johnson also does not disclose how much he spends on his security details, so much for transparency.

LA Crime

Another city where politicians claim crime is down. If it’s down, why is Governor Newsom deploying a “Crime Suppression” team to stop crime? If crime wasn’t a problem, why do you need a crime suppression team?

Governor Gavin Newsom has decided not to fund Proposition 36 in next year’s budget due to budget constraints. Proposition 36 increases the penalty for retail theft and drug-related crimes, which 70% the people voted for.

He also did not support the ballot measure because he feels that the counties should fund its implementation. Due to pressure, he made a one-time payment of $100 million. Not sure what happens when that money runs out.

He also does not disclose how much he spends on his security details, which are provided by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Interestingly, it is for the same reason as Illinois: a safety reason.

Baltimore Crime

Baltimore, MD, has had a long-standing issue with crime. However, Governor Wes Moore invited the president to come to the city and see the progress they’ve made on crime after Trump’s threat to send in the guards.

In the first 17 days after the National Guard was deployed in Washington, D.C., Baltimore experienced over 2,500 crimes during that time. This includes six homicides, nine rapes, 426 assaults, 271 aggravated assaults, 252 auto thefts, 155 burglaries, and 439 acts of vandalism.

Just like the other governor’s the Maryland State Police does not release the security detail cost for Governor Wes Moore. However, under Governor Larry Hogan, travel costs in 2022 for out-of-state and international travel exceeded $200,000.

Mississippi and Alabama

Both have high crimes and are run by Republicans. Mississippi’s Governor is Tate Reeves, and Alabama’s Governor is Kay Ivey. They have both been focusing on bringing crime down in both states.

They have not been in the news as much as the other states or cities, so there is not much to report, other than they are both working on crime reform. No idea what they are doing to bring crime down.

Like other states, they do not publish the dollar amount spent on their security detail.

Congress

Why is it that politicians make sure they are protected and pass bills secretly to increase private security for themselves?  In July, they doubled their home security equipment from $10,000 to $20,000.  They also increase the monthly allotment from $150 to $5,000 a month to hire private security until the end of the year.  How much have they increased security for you? Was this even on the news?

In Pa, a Representative from District 54 is introducing a bill that protects government officials. He is more concerned about his safety by focusing on 4 bills to protect politicians instead of his constituents. Take a look. I am not saying politicians should not be protected. However, why has the security of our representatives become such a problem in the last four years?

Could it be that when you tell people to go to the streets and fight, they do it?  Minority lead Hakeem Jeffries stated he would fight Trump’s agenda “in the streets.”  Maxine Waters said she would “Take Trump out.” She also told her supporters to harass the members of the Trump Administration. Chuck Schumer said the justices will “Pay the Price.”

It’s not just the Democrats, but the Republicans, too. Paul Gosar’s anime video, in which he portrays himself killing AOC and swinging a sword at President Biden. Marjorie Taylor Greene liked a comment about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that said, “A bullet to the head would be quicker.”

Both parties are the problem with the elevated violence against them. They continue to tell their constituents to fight against the other party. What one party wants to do, the other party objects to. Why can’t they get into a room and figure out how to work together? I know they can not agree on everything, but can’t they find common ground? It’s not hard to stop cursing or threatening each other.

It’s time for you to work together or get out!
